Who is Micheal de Montaigne?

Michel de Montaigne (1533–1592) was a French writer, philosopher, and statesman, best known for his collection of essays called “Essais” (Essays).

Montaigne was born into a wealthy family in France and received a humanist education in his youth. He studied law and served as a magistrate in Bordeaux, but he resigned from his position to devote himself to writing and contemplation. Montaigne is considered one of the founders of the modern essay, a form of writing that allows for personal reflection and exploration of ideas. In his later years, Montaigne served as mayor of Bordeaux and was involved in the negotiations that led to the end of the French Wars of Religion.

Montaigne’s writing style is characterized by a conversational tone, a willingness to explore his own thoughts and experiences, and a skepticism toward dogmatic ideas.
