Karpman’s Drama Triangle
According to Karpman and other psychologists, “victim, rescuer, and persecutor” allude to roles that people unconsciously play or try to influence other people into playing, rather than the actual events in someone’s life.
This triangle indicates that we play these many roles based on the situation, time, people, and context. Bruce Wayne, for example, lost his parents and became a victim. Later, to help others, he transforms into Batman. For example, if he fails to be a rescuer, he could become judgmental of himself or his assistant Robin, and might also become the persecutor.
The ideal situation is to be conscious of the part you are playing and to achieve a balance.
